Put a note in your diary, to remind yourself to check W J King's website at the end of November each year, to find out details of the brewery's Open Day. This is normally at the beginning of December and is a good time to visit the brewery, as it is also the launch of their Christmas offering Merry Ale 6.5%. When we were there in December 2005 the brewery was in full swing. A batch of Horsham Best Bitter 3.8% was under way, which gave us a chance to see the process. But in addition there were samples of several brews to try, competitions, and the chance to buy, at discount prices, beers, breweriana, and even Christmas puddings made with beer. The Broadwood Morris added a festive note (several, actually!) and gave me my first photographs of morris dancing in a brewery.

No need for concerns about drinking and driving, as the brewery is on a small industrial estate within easy walking distance of Horsham station, but on another visit you may want to bring the car to carry away your purchases. (As well as the bottled versions you can buy 4 or 8 pint containers - or plan for your party with 17 pint Minipins or 34 pint Polypins.)
