Alveringem,
is an attractive little town just a short distance from
Lo
along the banks of a canal. Here is
the
official town page for Alveringem
(in Dutch) Small
though it is, there are several compelling reasons to visit this town.
Alveringem
is home to
De Snoek
- an old brewery and malt house, now a museum of brewing delightfully
named the 'Museum of Thirst', with its adjoining café-bar.

An essential
stop on the gastronomic trail is
‘t Potje Pâté,
a regular port of call on all our visits to Flanders - good beer,
good food, and a chance to take home some of the best pâtés you'll find.

The administrative district of Alveringem
covers 80 km2 and takes in 8 other towns. One of these
is Oeren, a hamlet lying close to Alveringem, and reached by narrow
roads over open fields. Why go there? It's where you'll find
de Leute,
a delightful country café-bar,
in a historic building, and the handiest one of the outlets for
Brouwerij de Bie. You really must sample the products of this
innovative brewery. |
